Elevator cab lighting can be a serious energy waster. In fact, it’s estimated that more than 40% of the overall power consumption of elevators is wasted by standby functions—up to 1/3 of which is cab lighting. The LIGHTwatcher, brought to you by Wurtec and Henning, saves energy and money by automatically activating and deactivating cab lights as needed. The LIGHTwatcher installs directly on the car roof or cabin fixture panel and senses movements of the elevator door as well as the opening and closing of the car doors. After a user-defined period has lapsed with no movements detected, the LIGHTwatcher turns off the cab lights. To install, simply cut the lighting branch circuit and place the LIGHTwatcher—no further wiring required. In addition to controlling the lighting, the LIGHTwatcher can automate one other application. It also has a third contact to switch on an application while in low-power mode, e.g., emergency illumination. If other sensors are needed for special applications, four potential free inputs are available.

Benefits

  • Easy, quick installation in the lighting branch-circuit
  • Adjustable time can be set to meet ASME A17 code that states a minimum wait time of 5 minutes
  • (4) inputs for verifying the 4 requirements by ASME A17 before shutting off cab illumination
  • 65% potential energy savings
