The Wurtec rail halo is used to speed up the rigging during guide rail installation. The rail halo is fastened, with wire rope clips (Crosbys) to the hoisting rope, above the quick release clevis (QRC) and about 1-2 feet below the top of the rail being hoisted. I.e., for 16’ rails, fasten the halo about 14-15’ above the QRC. The rail halo is then hoisted above the top of the rail and lowered over the rail, and the QRC is connected to an open hole in the lower end of the guide rail and/or fishplate. The rail halo will help prevent the rail from tipping during hoisting and allow it to travel up the hoistway in a vertical position. After the rail is set and fastened to the rail and brackets below it, the QRC is removed. The hoisting rope is raised to pull the rail halo over the top of the rail and is then ready for the hoisting of the next rail. Without the rail halo, you would have to hoist the rail from the top, position, set and fasten it and then have someone above you disconnect the QRC. Speed up the process with the Wurtec rail halo.
